My Greatest Fear
By Kyle Hilsey
I am not afraid of typical expectations,
Spiders and snakes cause no pulse.
Heights are given no second thought.
My greatest fear is not that I will never reach greatness,
But that I have already reached it.
I fear that I have prematurely reached the climax of my life story.
The closing notes of my harmonic symphony seem to grow louder and louder as the curtains fall.
I fear that nothing else shall surpass this once glorious moment,
And this once shining achievement has now slowly begun to rust.
I fear nothing can ever tip the scale and produce a rising action.
My character lives a tragedy.
He shall look back in disdain,
And refuse to push the bounds knowing that the wall will not break.
Though I try to polish the past,
I know it shall fade with time.
